Moira Bell is hilarious and heart-warming company whether she's defending her 'snookelums pookelums' from the local rottweiler, attempting to seduce a teacher in the school where she works as a cleaner, or belting out Diana Ross for the Scotia karaoke night, Moira is hilarious and heart-warming company.

A thoroughly entertaining series of short stories from Falkirk's hardest woman, Moira Bell.  Written and performed by one of Scotland's most exciting young writers, Alan Bissett.

What the Press say

The episodic settings are wonderfully paced in this hour, and although laced with huge humour and devastating one-liners, more serious themes emerge...See this. It’s astounding, insightful, very Scottish, a wee bit sad and elegiac, but mainly very, very funny, and reveals Bissett as a quite extraordinary stage presence.

However hilarious it gets – and I have heard no audience on this year's Edinburgh Fringe laugh as wholeheartedly as in the National Library of Scotland – Bissett plays it absolutely straight. Whether Moira is trying to get a dog to give an apology or attempting to sum up the highlights of an impenetrable production of The Taming of the Shrew, Bissett is always on her indignant side. This, of course, only makes a laugh-a-minute show even funnier.

It's Bissett's own performance of The Moira Monologues, though, that makes this double-bill a roaring theatrical success. Dressed in simple jeans and a sweater, Bissett steps into the light, and is instantly transformed into Moira Bell, queen of the Falkirk underclass, and one of the most charismatic characters to emerge in Scottish theatre this decade.
