directed by Tommy Smith,
presents
The Culloden Moor Suite / The Green Thorn Tree
with special guest composer / saxophonist, Bobby Wellins
Bobby Wellins’ Culloden Moor Suite is a sleeping giant of jazz and chamber music. An eloquent lament for the fallen in battle and a beautiful, soulful celebration of one of Scotland’s most haunting historical locations, it is a rarely visited masterpiece long deserving of a wider audience. His other piece is about Burns – a musical celebration of early family life through his inspirational writing to his fall from grace. With Wellins’ tenor saxophone – an entirely individual sound that is indelibly associated with Stan Tracey’s 1960s classic Under Milk Wood recording – as the leading voice at the head of Europe’s finest large scale jazz ensemble, the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, this much-anticipated performance promises atmosphere, drama, spontaneous creativity and spiritually uplifting music.
