Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No3 opens this delightful concert by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
Composed after a visit to Scotland in 1829, this musical portrait of our country still sounds as fresh as ever. Ayrshire-born James MacMillan conjures up scenes from an old world, evoking strong musical resonances of Britten’s Peter Grimes in his exciting Interludes, before the Orchestra brings the evening to an emotive conclusion with Elgar’s ever popular Enigma Variations, featuring the stirring Nimrod.
Definitely not to be missed.
