François Truffaut kept everything, from notes made on little bits of paper to the numerous drafts of each of his scripts, and photographs of those dear to him. He wanted to transcend death by keeping these traces. Anne Andreu starts from these traces – filmed interviews, photos, archival material – to endeavour to penetrate the mystery of one of the most admired filmmakers of the century. Taking full account of his legacy, the film reveals the hidden yet highly present relationship that links François Truffaut with today’s audiences.
