BBC SSO - SCHUBERT'S GREAT C MAJOR
Empire Theatre
SCHUBERT'S GREAT C MAJOR
Opening the evening’s performance is a youthful overture from Mendelssohn inspired by the legend of the mermaid Melusine. Leading British soloist Nicholas Daniel gives a rare performance of the beautiful Concerto for oboe and strings which Vaughan Williams composed towards the end of the Second World War, and Andrew Manze brings the evening to a stirring close with Schubert's monumental final symphony.
